History of the School

St Mary’s School was founded by the IBVM (Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary) in 1898.

In 1987, St Mary’s original junior school became independent under the name St Catherine’s Preparatory School. This thriving school merged again with St Mary’s School in February 2006. The vision for St Mary’s was to continue to offer a Catholic, caring school, and create a fully integrated school which offers education to girls aged 4–18.

St Mary’s Junior School has always nurtured each child in a secure and stimulating Christian setting, in which we aim to provide an excellent education to enable each child to realise her full potential.
