About the University of Cambridge Holiday Playscheme

The organisers strongly believe in child-led play; however, a sample timetable of planned activities can be seen here. Each holiday the activities are likely to consist of arts and crafts, sports, rollerblading, construction, den building, woodwork, role play, fancy dress, cooking, reading, messy play, music, water play, party games, and much more.

Over 11s are free to be less involved with the activities put on for the younger children, and are engaged in card games, board games, cooking and baking, drama activities, films, local trips, snack preparation, games on the Wii, and barbecues. There is the opportunity to participate in trips and outings to local parks, museums, nature reserves, or other places of interest.

Trips are usually optional and some children will remain at the settings where activities will run as normal, and there is a suggested £2 contribution per child for any trips attended.

Sixth Form volunteering opportunities

The University of Cambridge Holiday Playscheme is looking for enthusiastic, energetic and responsible people to work during the school holidays at the playschemes for children aged 4-15. No previous experience working with children is necessary; however candidates need to feel confident with initiating exciting play opportunities.

This is a great chance to earn some extra income during the holidays as you can work as much or as little as you like during the holidays. The starting salary is £7.44 per hour.

We strongly believe in child-led play, and strive to provide as many exciting opportunities for children as possible, whether they be sports or arts and crafts, role play or construction, music, dance or even woodwork and cooking. If you’d like to bring your skills to our fun team then get in touch. Email playscheme@admin.cam.ac.uk or telephone +44 (0)1223 3399050.
