Golden girls

Sixth Form students Isabelle L. and Ellen C. have done extremely well to complete their Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Awards in such a short amount of time: they have completed 12 months of volunteering, and a further 12 and six months of their chosen physical activity or a skill. The girls have also planned and completed two expeditions, which included four days of walking and three nights of camping, carrying all their food and equipment, in the Yorkshire moors last July, finishing in Whitby and celebrating with fish and chips on the pier.

Isabelle has been part of the rowing squad for her physical element and Ellen has continued in her ballet classes. Both girls have volunteered at Addenbrooke's Hospital and both went with the school on the annual pilgrimage to Lourdes, where they supported the Catholic Association and the Glanfield Children’s Group in running a holiday-pilgrimage, taking sick, disabled and disadvantaged children and their parents and siblings, as well as adults with learning difficulties, to Lourdes.

Ellen plays the violin for her skill whilst Isabelle extended her cooking skills.

Isabelle and Ellen will have the opportunity to go to St James's Palace for a Gold Award presentation ceremony; Prince Edward, HRH The Earl of Wessex is now the Patron of the Award. This is an outstanding achievement and the girls are encouraged to wear the badges they are receiving today. Congratulations and very well done!
