Teachers hold 'marketplace' to drive innovation and discussion

Our teachers have been working in QUILT groups all year (Quality and innovation in teaching and learning). Today, we held a ‘marketplace’, where each group had a stand and shared their ideas with colleagues. Topics included ‘making learning stick’, ‘flipped learning’, ‘enquiry based learning’ and ‘using talk for engagement in the classroom’.
‘Enquiry based learning’ is a method of teaching and learning based on research by the student, whilst ‘flipped learning’ is the practice of encouraging students to study content before the lesson, which allows class time to be dedicated to skills development. The ‘Assessment’ stand addressed how ‘self-assessment’, ‘peer assessment’ and ‘teacher assessment’ have worked in different ways for three very different subjects: Mathematics, Languages and Art. The ‘making learning stick’ stand showcased the benefits of pupils teaching each other, as well as providing an interactive discussion board for staff to share ideas for lesson activities.
It was a fantastic event which generated a lot of discussion and food for thought ahead of planning next year’s lessons.
