Miss Collinson dives to an amazing fundraising success

On Saturday 30 September Miss Heather Collinson, Senior School teacher of Mathematics, competed in a scuba diving competition in Guildenburgh Water, Peterborough. Miss Collinson took part in the competition in aid of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and raised a few hundred pounds for the cause. The team of five had to undergo three underwater tasks: two involving swimming around to find clues in murky water and the other playing pool underwater to see who could pot three balls the fastest. 

Miss Collinson has been diving for five years and has a PADI open water qualification. She loves to dive in Stoney Cove in Leicestershire which is a flooded quarry. Lots of things have been sunk in the lake - on purpose - for divers to investigate, including a giant Nessie!  Diving also sees her venture to Bedford once a month to dive in the 4m deep pool so that she can maintain her skills!

In January, Miss Collison’s diving will take her to an aquarium in Skegness, where she will swim in the tank with sharks and rays, which she is really looking forward to, alongside trips to Barbados and Grenada in years to come. In the past diving has also taken her to some exotic countries, the clear favourite being St Lucia, diving along coral reefs in water that has 100m visibility and is about 28 degrees - unlike Guildenburgh, which is only about 13 degrees…
