Boarding
Further Information
Medical
All new boarders are sent a medical form for completion and should return it to Mrs Hannaford before arrival at school. It is vital for us to have detailed information on your medical history to enable us to provide the correct medical care should the need arise. A medical card with NHS number is also required if available. All girls will be registered with our female school doctor and will receive a medical within the first few weeks of term. The doctor visits on a weekly basis, as required, and appointments are made through Mrs Hartley or Mrs Hannaford.
If you should feel unwell during the day or night Mrs Hannaford or Mrs Hartley are always on call. Should you be unwell and unable to attend school for several days, then parents / guardians will be contacted and asked to collect you.
Pastoral Care
What do I do if I want to talk to someone?
Remember that you have your parents, guardian and close friends who may be able to help you. Maybe there is an older girl to whom you can turn or any member of staff you know and to whom you feel you can talk. We have a team of older students who are happy to help you settle in. When you arrive at school, a member of the team will introduce themselves to you. They are here to assist if you have any concerns.
What happens if I want to make a complaint?
Sometimes you may feel that you would like to complain about something that is worrying you. The first thing you should do is speak to any member of staff; you can take a friend with you if you like. It is particularly important for you to realise that in the event that you are in trouble over something, that you can have a friend with you when you are talking with your Head of Boarding, the Deputy Head or the Headmistress. If you do not want to talk to anyone at school, you can talk to the School Chaplain, Mgr Tony Rogers, or to any of the other people or organisations listed in your boarder’s guide.
Telephone
You have access to one card phone and two pay phones. Everyone may use the telephones in the Cortile. The senior boarders’ telephone may only be used by Year 11 and Sixth Form boarders. Phone cards can be purchased at reception.
Mobile phones are allowed in school but please note that, if you bring one, it is entirely your responsibility to look after it.
All boarders and their parents and guardians should have a list of contact telephone numbers for boarding staff, the three telephones mentioned above and other useful numbers. Please contact Mrs Hannaford if you do not have a copy.
Parents and Guardians: please note!
If you wish to contact your daughter on any of these telephones, please make prior arrangements with her so that she can be waiting to answer your call. It will be difficult to contact your daughter on these telephones unless an arrangement has been made.
International boarders: flights
Please make sure that you book flights to coincide with the school holidays. You must seek permission from the Headmistress before you book a flight that may interfere with your schooling. If there is a problem with your flights, please see the Headmistress.
