Class of...

When searching for your friends with webALUMNUS, you can use a variety of criteria, including the years they were at school and the year in which they left. Some of your friends will have left after A Levels, some before, not all will have started at age 11 and some may have only been at St Mary’s for a short while. So, don’t forget to search over a range of years if you want to find everyone who was in your class.

However, the best way to find everyone who was in the same class or year as yourself is to search by year groups (class of). Please note that your Year Group is not necessarily the same as your Leaver Year: your year group is the summer of the year in which your contemporaries were in the Upper 6th at St Mary’s, regardless of whether or not you were in the 6th form yourself (see below for further details). Our records are mainly complete for 1982 and 1983, and as good as complete from 1984 onwards. Records are much more sketchy for those who left before 1982 and we are adding this data as people tell us when they register. If no year group is shown in your Personal Details record, then please tell us: remember to include what class you were in when you left St Mary’s (e.g. Upper 6th) and what year that was (e.g. 1970).

Examples of year groups

  1. If you joined St Mary’s at the age of 11 in September 1991 (Year 7), then irrespective of when you left the school, you are part of the 1998 year group as July 1998 was the date when your class would have left St Mary’s at the end of their year in the Upper VIth.
  2. If you joined St Mary’s Junior School at the age of 7 in September 1962 (Year 1, Junior School), then irrespective of when you left the school, you are part of the 1973 year group as July 1973 was the date when your class would have left the school after the end of their second year in the VIth Form.
  3. If you left St Mary’s at the age of 14 in December 1989 and you were in Year 9, then you are part of the 1994 year group as July 1994 was the date when your class would have left the school after the end of their second year in the VIth Form.
