About St Mary’s

Headmistress’s Letter: 5 May 2005

Dear Parents,

We seem to have had an action packed two weeks since returning from the Easter holiday. Students in year 11 and the sixth form are well into their revision programmes and we wish them every success with their impending examinations. We have enjoyed the GCSE Art Exhibition in Hall A this week. The work was full of variety, imagination and creativity.

Oliver!

Last week, many parents and students came to watch an enchanting production of the musical Oliver! Our congratulations are extended to all the members of the cast and crew, to Mrs Watling, the director, Mr Benziger and Miss Chiam and all the other staff and parents who helped during rehearsals and the performances. It was a very enjoyable occasion.

Staff Changes

There have been some staff changes this term. Mr Geoff Pollard left at the end of the Easter term and Mrs Stoye has come in for one term to cover his chemistry timetable. Mrs Hazel Harris, our previous Head of Mathematics, is teaching two classes of Mathematics, to allow Mrs Clark and Mrs Hall to create the timetable for next year. You will recall that Mr Paul Mitchell will be starting as the new Academic Deputy Head from September 2005. I have also appointed Mrs Kay Dodsworth as Senior Mistress from September and Mr Daniel Bennett will take on the responsibility for the RE department.

Surgery for Parents

Please can I remind all parents about the Parents’ Surgery between 8.45 and 9.15am every morning? This is a time when parents can meet with me, or phone me, to raise any issue about their daughter without a prior appointment. Do not hesitate to come to tell me about anything that it is bothering you or indeed anything that you are particularly delighted about. It is always easier to deal with a concern in the early stages and prevents problems later on.

Parent Survey

A big thank you to all the parents who completed the RSAcademics Parent Survey. The information produced by the survey will be extremely useful to the Governors and the Senior Management Team as we look at the next stage of development for the School.

With very best wishes
Yours sincerely,

Jayne Triffitt
