About St Mary’s
Careers
The Careers Department aims to help each individual to make the vital decisions which will give her the basis for a successful career in the 21st century.
We have a well-stocked Careers Library with three computers which have access to the Internet and a range of diagnostic and database programs.
St Mary’s has all-in membership of the Independent Schools Careers Organisation. All Year 11 students take the Morrisby Tests to assist them in making informed career decisions. ISCO Careers Experience courses are offered to our sixth formers and we have help and advice from the Eastern Region Director and the extensive ISCO information system.
Our Careers Guidance programme is incorporated into PSHE at all levels in the school:
- Year 7: you are introduced to the Careers Library
- Year 8: the Real Game gives an insight into careers and lifestyle
- Year 9: GCSE Options Choice programme; Industry Day
- Year 10: introduction to career choices with the Pathfinder computer program
- Year 11: ISCO Morrisby tests and interviews to give individual in-depth advice; Work Experience
- LVI: higher education information programme
- UVI: guidance for university applications
