About St Mary’s
The 1980s
1984
- St Mary’s Convent becomes known as St Mary’s School and is made into an independent charitable company, with lay Trustees serving in partnership with IBVM sisters.
1986
- The Junior School is phased out.
- The Community moves into Nos. 7 and 8 Brookside.
1988
- 47 Bateman Street is purchased for the school as an Art and Design centre.
- The Junior School closes but St Catherine’s School is founded by a consortium of parents in a house belonging to the Botanical Gardens.
1989
- Miss Michele Conway, Headmistress 1989-1997.
