About the Council
The Senior School Council is very ably led by our Sixth Formers under the leadership of Flora S, the Head Girl. The Council is made up of representatives from nearly every form group in the School and regularly meets together fortnightly to discuss issues and matters important to pupils in the Senior School. This is not simply a time to bring up complaints and issues but to be more constructive and suggest solutions or ideas to benefit the school as a whole.
Council representatives are invited to stay on the Council in subsequent years if it is an aspect of School life which they feel is important to them and they enjoy representing their peers. Council representatives are tasked with canvassing the views of their fellow tutees and then reporting back to the tutor group about discussions from the meetings.
This year we are looking to improve the methods of reporting meetings and discussions back to the whole School and of promoting the successes and campaigns of the Council. To that end we will begin publication of a termly newsletter to inform pupils and staff of what has been discussed and of any changes the Council has helped bring to School life.
Governors, Senior Management, Teachers and School Staff are encouraged to bring ideas and proposals, which are appropriate for student discussion, to the Council meetings in order to get a genuine feel of pupils' thoughts and ideas on matters that will ultimately affect them and their School life at St Mary's.
On this page you can see a photograph of the current council and some of its leaders.
