Girls in Year 4 were treated to a special Viking Day on Monday 22 March with an expert coming in to tell them about what life would have been like in AD 700 to 1100.
Thorulf Hammrsson from Portals to the Past delighted the girls with a demonstration of weapons and ending the day with a battle recreation involving the students.
The Vikings came from Denmark, Norway and Sweden and the name Viking comes from a language called Old Norse and means 'a pirate raid'.
During that period of history many Vikings left Scandinavia and travelled to other countries such as Britain to fight and steal treasure. Others settled in new lands as farmers, craftsmen or traders.
Mrs Farmer said: "In the morning Thorulf gave a very interesting presentation, the girls took part in a Viking Quiz, there was a session of looking at Viking artefacts and also looking at Viking Coin Making. In the afternoon he showed us Viking weapons and armour, the girls had a go at spear wrestling and they finished with a Viking Battle.
"The Form 4 Viking Day is one we always look forward to. The girls came dressed in a wonderful array of Viking clothes with shields they had made in school, and they had a fantastic day, culminating in a Viking Battle held on the Masonic Hall Lawn."
