St Mary's School, Cambridge, has been highly praised by three independent sets of inspectors.
The latest inspectors to visit the school were from the Catholic Diocese of East Anglia who visited to assess not only the quality of educational provision, but also the spiritual and moral aspects of the school. They rated the school “outstanding” overall and also in every section of their report.
Their praise follows hot on the heels of that from the Independent Schools Inspectorate who in May said pupils benefited from “excellent” personal development and that girls of all abilities attain high standards as a result of the teaching at St Mary's. That report, in turn, followed one written by Ofsted in 2008 for boarding provision at the school, which also rated St Mary's as outstanding.
Charlotte Avery, headmistress, said: “We are immensely proud of these three reports. They rightly reflect the very high standard of education and care provided by the school. It is an accolade to both pupils and staff for their consistent devotion and hard work.
“The judgement in the opening paragraph of the Diocesan report speaks for itself when it says there is a sensitive understanding of and deep commitment to what it means to be a Catholic school.
“The inspector highlighted four key areas of strength; I am thrilled that she has picked out these areas since they lie at the heart of what St Mary's is all about. “
The four key areas highlighted in the report were: a proactively inclusive and respectful approach, recognising “a clear sense of belonging to the school community”; she was pleased to see how pupils are able to “take on positions of responsibility in the Catholic life of the school and in the wider community as well”; she noted that “Catholic social justice is prominent” and that pupils “are proactively involved in extensive charity fundraising”; and she highlighted the exceptional quality of the religious education department.
