St Mary’s is thrilled to welcome Ralph Woodward as the School’s new musician-in-residence.
Ralph is Musical Director of the Fairhaven Singers, Full Score and the Northumbrian Recorder and Viol School. He has worked in more than 20 countries, and has conducted the London Mozart Players, the City of London Sinfonia, The Parley of Instruments and Britten Sinfonia.
In his new position Ralph Woodward will be involved in coaching the School’s orchestra and taking sectionals, directing choir practices and working with chamber groups. He commented: "It's a thrill to be invited to be part of the music scene at St Mary's. As well as offering a very friendly and nurturing environment, the school is blessed with some extremely talented pupils and highly skilled and ambitious staff, so it's an exciting team to be joining."
Charlotte Avery, Headmistress at St Mary’s School, Cambridge, said: “We are delighted to be able to develop our connection with Ralph in this way. Ralph is already familiar with St Mary’s and he clearly embraces our School’s ethos. I know that the girls who have worked with him are as enthused as we are and I am confident that this mutual collaboration will provide splendid musical opportunities for all.”
Emma Levy, Director of Music at St Mary’s, added: "Following our chamber choir's recent collaboration with the Fairhaven Singers, we are delighted to be starting to work with Ralph on a more regular basis. We have already begun planning a number of exciting projects. We are particularly excited about our second collaboration with the Fairhaven Singers of the year. On 27 May 2012 St Mary’s students will take part in a concert of music by acclaimed composer Will Todd, for which some of the music is being written especially for us."
