Six Year 9 and two Year 10 students have been cooking up a storm in the St Mary’s Food Technology rooms as part of the national FutureChef competition.
FutureChef is a culinary programme helping young people aged 12-16 to learn to cook. Participants had to prepare and cook a hot one-course meal for two in one hour, costing no more than £4.
The judges were three St Mary’s staff members: Mr P Mallabone, Mrs A Wilson and School Chef Rebecca Whitehead - Price. They were very impressed by the standard of the dishes prepared, and finally chose Pasta Carbonara, prepared and made by Melissa J, Year 9 as the winner. Runner-up was Lucy M who prepared Mushroom Risotto.
The judges were impressed both by the standard of cooking and presentation of all the dishes.
Melissa will go on to represent the school at the Regional FutureChef finals in December.
