Two St Mary’s teams demonstrated their aptitude for public speaking as the School hosted an English Speaking Union competition.
Both teams put in strong performances, discussing challenging topics against tough competition from St Bede’s School.
One St Mary’s team was chosen to go through to the next round at Oakham Castle on 23rd February. The Speaker will be Martha F who will discuss the topic Family Life is Doomed. She will be joined by Dharaa P as Chairman and Kitty F as Questioner. They emerged as a very strong and tenacious trio.
Our second team consisting of Lauren S, Georgia F and Imogen S, performed very well and having gained experience will be back on stage for the competition next year. Their topic was Democracy is a Sham and all agreed that Lauren has the makings of a politician.
