An array of interesting experiments, bubbling chemicals and a flying St Mary’s teddy bear were all features of The Cambridge Science Xchange held at the Cambridge Guildhall.
A group of St Mary’s students attended the event to showcase their entry into the Cambridge Machine, in which they were asked to design a machine showing a chain reaction.
The students put hours of planning and effort into their entry, drawing up diagrams of each stage of their machine before building it. The St Mary’s chain reaction started with marbles flowing through a colourful marble run to land in a pot. Connected to that pot via a long stretch of twine is a teddy bear (complete with safety glasses as noted in the diagrams) which, when raised, triggered a chemical reaction of bubbling, burbling foam.

The Cambridge Science Xchange was organised by the Cambridge Science Centre for people to learn about science hands-on. They hope to set up a permanent exhibition in city.
