The Cambridge Town Bumps took place last week and St Mary's entered its Sixth Form rowing team. Below is an account of all the action by three members of the team Lydia A, Lorna M and Charlotte D:
Evening Two - We bumped!
It was another glorious evening on the Cam and St Mary's were psyched up to continue their winning streak. We had Champs VIII ahead of us who last year denied us our bump so we had everything to prove. We had youth on our side especially with Lower Sixth super Lizzie T making her Bump's debut. The support from the spectators was huge with many St Mary's alumni, staff and parents cheering us on.
Despite a wobbly start, we powered on to put distance between us and the chasing boat. With the Champs VIII in sight we dug deep to power the boat towards them, gaining on them with every stroke. After a call from our Cox Megan L for a "bumping 20" we put in our all and managed to bump them just before they bumped the crew in front of us. St Mary's rowing coach Susan Brown along with other supporters was there at the finish line to congratulate us with willow twigs to place in our hair.
Well done girls!
