Reception and Year 1 Explore a Building Site

Posted in: Latest News, Trips and Visits

Hard hats and yellow jackets were the order of the day as St Mary's Year 1 and Reception classes visited the Sainsbury's Lab development at the Botanic Gardens.

Organised by the classes' teachers and St Mary's Health and Safety Manager Paul Woods, the trip saw 19 girls walk down to the site, which is visible from the back of the school.

At the gates, to welcome the children, were two very special builders, Keiron the Keir Mascot and Ivan Goodsite.

Before anyone was allowed onto the site the girls were given their very own hard hats and high visibility jackets as well as a goody bag full of crayons, a colouring book and a miniature hard hat pencil sharpener.

Once on site it was possible to see a big crane- the driver even waved hello- and the site foreman showed everyone how the bricks were raised to the top of the building and where all the new columns they were going to construct would go.

Many thanks to Keir who hosted the girls on the day.
