St Mary’s celebrated its 25th annual Fun Run to close the first half term of the year.
The charity 5km run was given an Olympic theme in celebration of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and took place on Coe Fen in Cambridge.
Each year group from Reception through to Year 13 was assigned a country competing in the 2012 Olympics around which to theme their costumes. As ever the event was a visual feast with an array of costumes, flags and colours on display and more than 25 Olympic countries represented.
Charlotte Avery, Headmistress of St Mary’s School, commented: “This was the silver jubilee of our charity Fun Run. The event is always a colourful and exuberant close to the first half term. Students and staff put so much effort and imagination into their costume design and creation – and this year’s Olympic theme was no exception. It is a really lovely sight to see all our girls joining together in support of such good causes.”
“Last year the St Mary’s Fun Run raised £7000 and we hope to top this amount this year. The money raised makes a huge difference to local, national and international charities, and it is a key reason that St Mary’s is so well known as a school which gives generously and whole-heartedly to worthwhile causes.”
Money raised from the Fun Run will be donated to four charities: the CJ Community in Zimbabwe, Educaid, Save the Children and to support the work of homeless charity, Emmaus. Additional funds from the run will be assigned to the St Mary’s Charity Committee to distribute to their chosen charities throughout the school year.
