Professor Colin Humphreys, a Cambridge material Scientist, came to talk to some of year 9 about Material Science and Miracles on Wednesday 12 May. This was a workshop which is part of the Laser project being undertaken by the Faraday Institute, University of Cambridge and University of Reading.
The students watched as 'metal with memory' was demonstrated, a scientific miracle, and listened to Professor Humphreys talk about his understanding of miracle in the religious context, in particular the crossing of the Red Sea and the Resurrection. He then answered searching questions from the students about science and religion, such as, 'How can a scientist think that prayer can be answered if God began the laws of nature?'
