Library Fun For World Book Day

Posted in: Latest News

The Library was transformed as St Mary's celebrated World Book Day in March with a whole range of fun activities.

Every girl in the school received a £1 book voucher which could they spend on a book of their choice, or exchange for one of the special World Book Day titles, including new stories by Chris Bradford and Sophie McKenzie.

More than 50 girls descend on the Library for a whole hour of fun activities at lunchtime on the day and took part in games and competitions. The “cubbee” characters proved to very popular, although Barack Obama was a little tricky to cut out! There were also some rather interesting clothing designs for Where's Wally.

The short story challenge demonstrated our girls' creativity with some very imaginative suggestions as to how Mortal Engines author Philip Reeve might continue his 'Piranha in the bathtub' tale.

The Treasure Hunt and Book Quiz were also very popular, especially with the Year 6 girls who did extremely well considering that many of the questions were based on Senior School books. There were so many entries that the winners were divided into year groups: Georgina H, Maeve M and Florence S from Year 6, Florence B and Gaby M in Year 7, Archana N and Anna P in Year 8.

Well done girls and enjoy spending your book tokens!
