Junior School students welcomed a special visitor this week, as Harkirat Singh came to their new Junior School to run workshops on Sikhism.
Harkirat Singh, a Sikh Education Officer, worked with classes from across Key Stage 2 talking about the different aspects of the Sikh faith.
In particular he covered the meaning and importance of the five Ks. These are the five items of faith that Khalsa Sikhs wear at all times: Kesh - uncut hair; Kangha - a wooden comb; Katchera - cotton underwear as a reminder of the commitment to purity; Kara - a steel circle, worn on the wrist, signifying bondage to Truth and Kirpan - a sword.
All the girls enjoyed the interactive workshops. They were able to handle the articles they were discussing as well as ask questions.
