Junior School host a traditional Harvest Market

Junior School students celebrated their re-location to a Victorian building by hosting a traditional Harvest Market.

Students from Years 5 and 6 dressed in Victorian costume and ran stalls selling items donated by St Mary’s families.

The Harvest Festival was very popular in late Victorian times and the girls recreated the atmosphere with their stalls, music and produce at the traditional market

Deirdre O’Sullivan, Headmistress of St Mary’s Junior School, commented: “The girls thoroughly enjoyed hosting their Harvest Market and putting on Victorian costumes. The recent relocation to our new school on Chaucer Road gave us plenty of space to host the market either in our beautiful school hall.”

“The girls are thrilled with their new home and have thoroughly enjoyed their first half term settling into this lovely building. The market was a great way to end the half term and learn more about how the Harvest Festival would have been celebrated by the families who lived in the house.”

The market stalls were also selling Crab Apple Jelly made by the girls in Year 5 accompanied by an Apple Cookbook made by Year 6 girls. The jelly has already been sampled by the other classes in the School and has been well received by the staff and students.

St Mary’s Junior School opened the doors of the newly refurbished building at the beginning of this academic year. The school includes dedicated subject rooms and an exceptional garden.
