St Mary’s students of all ages have been showing their support and commitment to Fairtrade as they took part in a host of activities as part of Fairtrade fortnight.
Girls from Years 4 and 6 joined forces with St Alban’s Catholic Primary School to form a human chain which circled St Alban’s School and OLEM Church. The event was given the theme of ‘Bee Happy’ with St Mary's girls representing sunflowers and the children from St Albans dressed as bees.
The classes learned how vital pollination and bees to maintaining the food supply round the world and took part in a joint assembly with talks by a local bee keeper.
Year 7 girls showed off their culinary skills at a Fairtrade cookery competition. Susie B claimed first prize for her delicious coffee cake. The tasty recipes from the event are below.
The Senior School also hosted a Fairtrade stall which was open every break time selling a variety of products which were all well received by students.
Thank you to all who gave their support throughout the fortnight.
