We are very proud of the marks that our girls achieved this year, which are even better than last year's.
Special congratulations go to the 18 girls who achieved straight A and A* grades, with a special mention to Elena C who was awarded 12 A* grades including GCSE Italian and also achieved an A in A-Level Italian. Students Anna M and Katy G, both achieved 11 A* grades, and Rebecca W, received 10 A* grades.
22 per cent of the year group (19 girls) achieved 10 or more A*- A grades. 36 per cent (31 girls) achieved 9 or more A* or A grades.
99 per cent of all grades achieved were A* - C.
Headmistress Charlotte Avery said: “The students and their teachers worked hard to achieve these marks, and both are to be commended for their diligence and effort. St Mary's is a place where girls are encouraged to strive for and reach their full potential. I think that our impressive GCSE and A-level exam results prove that this is happening every day.”
In addition to strong overall marks, students also excelled in specific subject areas.
Separate science results were very strong, with 80 percent of marks achieved A* or A. 89 per cent of Biology marks were A*- A, 84 per cent of Chemistry marks were A*- A and 66 per cent of Physics marks were A*- A.
“I think our strong marks in science prove that gender stereotypes are not only insulting, but just plain rubbish," said Miss Avery. "Girls do very well in science if they are given proper resources and support.”
