St Mary’s musicians filled the University Concert Hall with festive cheer at the Christmas Concert.
More than 200 students took to the stage to perform a varied repertoire. Audience members were treated to an assortment of classics plus the usual dose of jazz and modern pieces.
The Senior Orchestra opened the evening with a challenging rendition of Appalachian Spring by Copland and then Chamber choir, Allegro, performed Elgar's The Snow with music scholars Mary B and Iliana G accompanying on violins.
Our Jazz Band performed Witchcraft with Natasha W as vocalist and the Diamond Geezers performed their usual smooth moves to the delight and bewilderment of the unsuspecting audience. Cantore closed the concert with Carol of the Bells followed by a funky mash-up of I need a dollar/Buzzin'.
The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all, especially the traditional rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas with audience participation.
