Extra-Curricular Activities

Cantore Choir

As well as a multitude of after-school and lunchtime clubs, the School runs an extra-curricular afternoon every week which is compulsory, where the last teaching period of the day is given over to clubs and activities such as drama production rehearsals.

Activities run in extra-curricular time are reviewed every half term, with some activities run throughout the year, and some on a half term or termly basis. This gives extra flexibility andprovidesawider choice of clubs.

A small sample of the many clubs available is shown below:

  • Arts Club
  • Athletics
  • Ballet
  • Bodyworks Jazz Dance Club
  • Cantore choir
  • Gardening Club
  • Greek Club
  • Jazz Band
  • Readers and Reviewers Club (AKAChick-Lits Club)
  • Tennis Club
  • Spanish Film Club
  • Writing for Big Screen

Extra Curricular sports clubs provide the opportunity for as many students as possible to participate in a variety of physical activities, whatever their level of ability. Activities are offered during period six every Tuesday, as well as lunchtimes and after school. Some clubs are purely recreation based whilst others train for matches. Many girls go on to be selected to represent at District, County, Regional and National level. School colours are awarded in recognition of pupils' outstanding commitment and ability in their chosen sport.

Due to a large number of requests from pupils and parents alike, Cookery has been offered as a club since September 2008.

Arts Award

St Mary's was the first independent school in Cambridge to participate in the nationwide Arts Award scheme back in 2005. Three years later, in the academic year 2007-08, 47 girls took part in and passed the Award across the three levels; an impressive 36 students attained Bronze awards, 10 attained Silver, and one student attained the prestigious Gold award. The scheme continues to gain popularity with more and more young people participating and engaging with the arts every year.
