Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
St Mary's is renowned for its participation in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme, with 'The Good Schools Guide' calling it "outstanding", and "the best we have ever (and we mean ever) come across."
In the past year alone, eleven former Upper Sixth students travelled to St James' Palace to receive their Duke of Edinburgh Gold certificates from the award's founder, HRH the Duke of Edinburgh.

The School has an outstanding record of success in Duke of Edinburgh, with pupils commencing their Bronze award in Year 10 and progressing to the Gold in the Sixth Form. In 2007-8, there were sixty girls in Year 10 – nearly 70% of the Year group – taking their Bronze award. Currently, over a third of the Sixth Form is undertaking Gold, so more may take a trip to the Palace.
