More than 100 St Mary's alumnae and ex-staff, including CJ sisters, gathered at St Mary's on Sunday May 11, for the Pastonians' Association Annual Luncheon Reunion. Guests were wined and dined, with bucks fizz on entry and a three-course meal with wine. They were entertained by school pianists and the flute quartet Tutti Flutti.
Sister Francesca Giles C.J. (St Mary's teacher: 1963-95) spoke anecdotally about her work, ‘Life and Times' at H.M Prison Wormwood Scrubs.
The main speaker was alumna Isobel Shaw (St Mary's 1956-1961). Isobel was born in Ireland in 1943 and came to St Mary's as a boarder in 1956, into Year 9, at the age of 13. She studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology at A Level, before attending Newnham College to study Archaeology & Anthropology for part 1, then changing to English for the rest of her degree, graduating in 1965.
Isobel was married in 1964 and has lived with her husband and three children in Tanzania, Indonesia, Pakistan and the USA. She has spent the past 27 years living in Switzerland, in the Geneva region. Isobel writes guide books and leads tours, specialising in Pakistan and Central Asia. The travel guides she has written include: the ‘Pakistan Handbook', the ‘Pakistan Trekking Guide' and the ‘Pakistan Illustrated Guide'. She also leads walks in the Alps and Jura mountains.
