Sixth Form

Studying Outside the UK

What is Erasmus?

ERASMUS (European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students) is part of a programme called SOCRATES. It enables you to study in another European country for between 3 and 12 months.

  • You pay no UK institution fees if you go for a full academic year.
  • You receive full academic recognition.
  • You have access to intensive language preparation (you do not have to be studying languages as part of your degree course).
  • You are eligible for an Eramus student grant.

What other options are there?

  • You could study abroad as part of a UK based course (eg, a sandwich element or Erasmus placement) or as an overseas student at a non–UK university.
  • You could study anywhere in the world but the USA is becoming an increasingly popular option as tuition fees are increasing in Britain. Some of the top US universities are now actively targeting British students.
  • You will find plenty of useful links on our Universities Hot Links page.

How do I go about applying?

  • Do plenty of research and remember that this takes time!
  • Look carefully at the financial implications.
  • Let your tutor and Mr Peachey know as soon as possible. References take time to write.
