6th form science
The Sixth Form is a time to specialise and to concentrate in depth on a few subjects that really interest you and that will lead to your future career.
In the Lower Sixth you will study AS Level courses in 4 subjects, usually spending 3 double periods and one single period per week per subject. You will be advised to spend a similar amount of time studying each subject outside the classroom. You will also be able to enjoy a wide–ranging programme of sport, enrichment and university preparation.
In the Upper Sixth you will continue your study of 3 or 4 subjects to A2 Level and again be able to participate in a programme of sport, enrichment and university preparation. Usually 4 double periods per week are devoted to each A2 subject.
St Mary’s aims to provide the second year of courses offered in the Lower Sixth and continuity of teachers.
To ensure that your time in St Mary’s Sixth Form and beyond is enjoyable and successful, you will be offered expert advice on effective study techniques, time and task management, motivation and reading skills. There is also comprehensive preparation for university applications, including Oxbridge sessions, advice from admissions tutors and gap year organisations etc.
